MPAS meeting January 2023

Society monthly meeting recorded on 20230118 at The Briars Mount Martha Observatory.

Meeting introduction and rundown of past month and upcoming events was given by the President, Dr. Peter Skilton.

Vice President, Mark Stephens, then presented “Sky for the Month”, and Committee member, Chris Kostokanellis, presented the “Monthly Photo Challenge”.

The main talk was a 50th anniversary public lecture by Prof. Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell, Astrophysicist and discoverer of Pulsars, on the topic of “The Discovery of Pulsars”. This talk was hosted at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, Ontario, Canada, on 20181025, and is available on the PITP YouTube channel.

Other educational videos were shown by Peter Skilton as follows: “The Colour of Noise”, by Prof. Phil Moriarty, Nottingham University, on the Sixty Symbols YouTube channel.
