Meetings & community
Being an MPAS member is about more than the night sky — it’s a friendly community that meets, observes and learns together. Here’s what happens through the month.
Members Meeting
Our monthly Members Meeting is held on the third Wednesday of each month (except December) at the Briars, commencing around 8pm — with invited guest speakers, member presentations, Sky for the Month and Astro Mo Pho, our monthly photo challenge. Members and anyone interested in joining are very welcome. See the events calendar for dates, and catch up on past talks in the meeting recordings.
Working bees, BBQs & stargazing
Members meet (roughly) monthly for a working bee at the Briars to keep the site and equipment in good order, followed by a BBQ and stargazing — usually the Saturday after the Members Meeting. See the events calendar for dates.
Online meetings
In addition to meetings at Mt Martha Observatory (or when those aren’t possible), MPAS holds online members meetings. Details are sent via E-Scorpius and the members Facebook group; for how to join, see our Zoom Meetings page.
Staying in touch
The Society keeps members up to date through the E-Scorpius email group — when you join you’ll receive an invite; if it’s missing, just contact us (direct link: e-scorpius.groups.io/g/Members). There’s also a members-only Facebook group for sharing photos, questions and discussion.
