MPAS Meeting November 2024

Society monthly meeting recorded on 20241120 at The Briars Mount Martha Observatory.

Meeting introduction was by the President, Dr. Peter Skilton, who then showed the 2024 Ig Nobel prizes.

Vice President, Chris Kostokanellis, presented the Astrophotographic challenge for the month, and Committee member, Dr. Guido Tack, then presented the Sky for the Month.

The main topic was “The Weirdest Stars in the Universe”, by Assist. Prof. Emily Levesque, Astronomer, University of Washington, Seattle, USA. This public talk was from 07-March-2018 and is courtesy of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, Ontario, Canada.

Science videos were then shown as follows:

  • “We Might Find Alien Life In 2325 Days (Europa Clipper)” by Dr. Derek Muller, Veritasium channel.
  • “Scientists Figure Out Why Uranus Spins on One Side” by Anton Petrov, Whatdamath channel.
