Society monthly meeting pre-recorded without audience during the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions on 20201021.
Meeting introduction and rundown of past month and coming month events was given by the President, Dr. Peter Skilton.
The planned visiting speaker live talk wasn’t possible this month due to the pandemic restrictions. Instead, a public domain video courtesy of the Royal Institution channel was shown about “The End of Time: Future History of the Universe”, given in London by Sydney University Astrophysicist, Prof. Geraint Lewis.
This was followed by Vice President, Mark Stephens, presenting “Sky for the Month” online, then Dr. Sky Murphy speaking about “Creating a Universe”. Following that, Dr. Joe Liske from the European Southern Observatory explained about “Zodiacal Light Astronomy”. Then Lance Geiger of The History Guy channel, shared about “Lord Byron’s Daughter and the First Computer Program”. Next, Queenslander and mathematician/physicist, Toby Hendy, of the Tibees channel, showed “Newton’s Quarantine Notes that Changed Maths Forever”, and Victorian-born Dr. Derek Muller of the Veritasium channel, shone light on the question about “Is Dust Mostly Dead Skin?”.
A musical closure then followed using a 1970’s video filter from member Paula Miles playing the Mason Williams 1969 classic piece, “Classical Gas”, on her American Ovation guitar.
